"Rafmögnuð Náttúra": A Collaborative Process of Creation

The production of "Rafmögnuð Náttúra" was developed over a very short and intense period of time. With only three weeks to deliver his project, Marcos Zotes gathered a team of artists and designers in New York to collaborate with him in its creation. Marcos’ collaborators included Andrea Dart, Chris Jordan, Coco Karol, Thessia Machado, Azmi Mert Erdem, Raghul Sridharan, Steven Tsai, Noa Younse and Icelandic band For a Minor Reflection.
The collaboration of different media artists and a strong attitude towards a multidisciplinary approach to their artwork formed the central core for the success of “Rafmögnuð Náttúra”. The project provided a unique opportunity for exploring new collaborative processes for creative production, in which a multidisciplinary team of architects, designers, visual artists, musicians, dance performers and video artists were brought together to share their particular tools and design methods towards a unified vision.

Marcos Zotes

Marcos Zotes created his architecturally mapped visualizations using film, Rhino and AE. As Art Director for “Rafmögnuð Náttúra”, Marcos developed the workflow and unified the vision for his original concept. He managed the overall visual appearance as to how it communicated visually, stimulated moods, and psychologically appealed to its audience. Marcos orchestrated the different elements of the light installation and created the final video composition for “Rafmögnuð Náttúra”.
In addition, Marcos managed all curatorial aspects of the project, communication, onsite resources, and budget.

Chris Jordan

In his role as Technical Director, artist and designer Chris Jordan collaborated with Marcos Zotes in devising the projection-mapping technical setup for the show, solving all technical-related issues onsite and assisting Marcos in configuring an AE template for the team. In addition, Chris Jordan created time-lapses of solar activity, recorded by NASA’s SDO (Solar Dynamics Observatory) spacecraft from the days immediately preceding the festival, and created animations using graphic and solar elements.

Andrea Dart

Andrea Dart, architect and artist, collaborated with Marcos Zotes in creating content for "Rafmögnuð Náttúra". Andrea used Maya 3d software and AE to produce her fluid and dynamic visualizations.

Coco Karol

Coco Karol choreographed and performed her beautiful dance on a cold warehouse in Brooklyn. Her performance was videographed by Azmi Mert Erdem with Raghul Sridharan as Special Effects specialist, on a spatial configuration arranged by Marcos Zotes, who also edited the final video.

Steven Tsai

Steven Tsai, architect and artist, collaborated with Marcos Zotes in creating content for "Rafmögnuð Náttúra". Steven created his architectural explorations using advanced modelling techniques in order to reconfigure the church's spatial organisation.
